As a first generation Ethiopian American, HENO. was anointed by the Ethiopian Orthodox Church with the name, “Tekle Haymanot” after the famous Saint. Tekle’s life purpose was to expand upon his religious education as a monk throughout the several villages he passed through. HENO. is the physical embodiment of Tekle— a nomad who uses his musical gifts to make the world a better place.
Like his namesake, HENO. embraces his nomadic nature, traveling between his base in the Bay Area, his network in Los Angeles, and his home in Maryland. The self-taught producer/artist utilizes music as a sanctuary, allowing himself to create anywhere he roams. After finishing 2018 performing with various acts like JPEGMAFIA, 03Greedo, and an international tour with Nicole Millar in Australia, Heno. has been continuing to make a name for himself going into 2019. The hit song "Does This Ski Mask Make Me Look Fat?" alongside JPEGMAFIA has amassed more than 1 Million streams, on Spotify alone, and highlighted at 40th on the top 100 songs of Quarter 1 by Pitchfork. Meanwhile his latest EP, SUMN SLIGHT, is nearing 100K streams as well. Bandcamp listed the 7-track project in their "New and Notable" column; featuring Maryland rapper Ciscero, Matt McGhee, Wax Roof (a frequent collaborator with Sango, Rexxxliferaj, Dave B, etc.) and more.
Along with a feature on Anti-World artist Ghostie's project "Poltergeist Slim" ("Stick and Move") rated a 7.2 on Pitchfork, Heno. has recently started a series of beat tapes he's released entitled TEKLE to showcase his tremendous production as he's been patiently crafting his next major body of work. As of the end of summer, Heno. has been on a rampage with his unique live shows opening for Jay Electronica, Father, and a major Bandcamp showcase (recap below) along with local festivals in Oakland and several shows curated by SoFar Sounds.
